Chicago is the only driving location available by default in Midtown Madness. It is based on the real-life Chicago, Illinois.

Overview

Chicago is the third largest city in the United States with a population of three million. Various locations and landmarks are featured in game which are similar to their real-world counterparts, only modified and scaled to fit the proportions of the game. These include the Sears Tower, Meigs Field, Art Institute Of Chicago, Grant Park, and Navy Pier, and the Meigs Field airport near the Adler Planetarium. The Interstate is similar to the I-90 interstate with ramps connected to Chinatown.

Other locations include tunnels, pathways (sometimes secret ones not shown on the map), bridges, ramps, and archways for playable cars to pass through and explore.

Trivia

• The game's version of Chicago has some landmarks missing and is not entirely as accurate as the real city. Some of the differences are as follows:
  • The Meigs Airport is now demolished.
  • The Chicago Sun Times Headquarters were demolished in 2004.
  • The Picasso Sculpture is not in Daley Plaza.
  • The Flamingo sculpture in-game is located right next to Daley Plaza. In real life, it is located a few blocks south.
  • Oddly enough, the developers seem to have confused Federal Plaza with Daley Plaza, which are few blocks away from one another.
  • The Near North Side has been drastically compressed, in order to include Wrigley Field in the playable area, even though - in real life - it should be farther in the North, in Wrigleyville.
  • Similarly for the Near South Side, the neighborhoods of Central Station, Prairie District, and part of Dearborn Park are missing, so much that Dearborn Station and Chinatown are adjacent in-game, while they are actually separated by many city blocks.
  • Some buildings have been relocated in order to enhance gameplay.
• Chicago was mentioned in Midtown Madness 2 by a London traffic driver angrily asking, "Are you from Chicago!?" It could mean the player is originally from Chicago, or it is just a reference to the original Midtown Madness (and its crazy Chicago driving) because it has no storyline.

MM2 Version

A conversion of the city from the first Midtown Madness game for the sequel was created by SuperSecret in August 9, 2014, in which it is now possible to cruise and race on it. This track features all the same races from the original Midtown Madness, with working opponents. All of the famous landmarks seen in Midtown Madness are now present in this conversion for Midtown Madness 2. In addition, the race menu and loading screens feature accurate race maps, and are now in MM2-style, and the Chicago Police Ford Mustang Cruiser is now a separate, usable vehicle. However, glitches, freezes and crashes can be found in this version.
